Amplitube Ampeg Svx Bass Guitar Amp Modeling Vst Final Version
2)But not as much as the V-4B, paired with the 2x12 cabinet. Although the tone controls are a little more complicated in that we now have a three band midrange parametric and bass and treble cut/boost switches as well as gain, what we do have here is the appearance of that Ampeg growl in a more controllable package.
Why not do a phone-authorization like Microsoft offers for their Windows 7? I just did that yesterday (for the first time actually) for a new system at work (controls a very expensive laser instrument so we don't hook it up to the net).
The whole process was much less onerous than I was anticipating. The only real annoying thing was being told by the robot-lady-voice what numbers to enter into the confirmation box.
Although now that I think about it, I sort of got excited by her commanding me what to do. (I suppose these types of voice-recognition software things doesn't come cheap, or maybe I could get one for home).

Simply authorizing won't work without the gear model downloaded and installed. There is also the whole browsing for the gear you want to purchase. How can you purchase something without knowing what is available in the Custom Shop? I tried Amplitube 3 free, but it was a CPU killer on larger projects.
Sounded great, but just too much cpu hit. What I do is take my bass track and split it off (pre-fx) to a second track that has Nick Crow's 7170 amp sim and the Poulin LeCab1 cab sim loaded as fx (usually along with some kind of compressor at the end of the chain, but not always), and then I mix this with the orig clean bass track. You can mix as much or little dirt into the bass as you want, love it! Use it on most of my tunes! I tried Amplitube 3 free, but it was a CPU killer on larger projects.

I use parallel distortion alot for rock bass. Typically I'll bandpass it as well. Basically its adding distorted mids which provuides definiton, levels the sound somewhat and provides upper harmonics so you can hear the bass on small speakers (computer, ear buds, TV). BTW you could use the nick crow clean tube preamp A(or any tube preamp sim) + free SVT cab impulses and have yourself a nice, free SVT-ish result. It has 2 electric bass sounds, Classic Bass and Funk Bass (I use Funk Bass) and they sound really good. Don't let the name fool you, though. The Funk Bass is perfect for rock and metal, and that's what I've been using it for. It may or may not be exactly the sound you're looking for, but it's worth a shot, at least. When you get Kontakt 4 Player, get the free Factory Selection Library to go with it.
Without it, Kontakt Player's useless. I program my bass tracks by tabbing them out in TuxGuitar (also free) and exporting the MIDI to Reaper, and then loading Kontakt Player. Hope this helps! Amplitube SVX, FTW! Seriously, after struggling with the Line 6 bass models for years, I popped this one in and found instant awesomeness with the two SVT Pro 4 'Rock' presets.
It was -and has been- absolutely incredible. Not free, but worth every penny. It just mixes and plays so nicely with everything, too.
I've actual gone back on numerous 'completed' projects and re-recorded with this plug-in. Sounds like my story the first time I used SVX too! Lol I started with a hardware version of what you were using though.
After I used the Ampeg SVX plug though I sold it and another modeler and haven't missed em since! Sounds like my story the first time I used SVX too!

I forgot to mention that I use the Ampeg SVX as the 'clean' bass channel on (to be mixed with the Nick Crow/LeCab combo) many of my projects as well, which may at least partially account for the high CPU hit I got.
Additionally, I should clarify that these are HUGE projects with 80+ audio tracks at 96K/32FP, so at 44.1 I'm sure it would be a piece of cake! And.I should repeat that the Amplitube 3 free sounded frikkin' awesome!

Once we go back to 44.1K/24-bit, I'm sure to be using it!
