I have XP with Service Pack 2 as my operating system. Everytime I try to install itunes 10, I get this message.This installation cannot be run by directly launching the MSI package. You must run setup.exe. I downloaded a windows installer update hoping to remedy the problem, but to no avail. I also deleted all temporary internet files, but that didn't make a difference. I have no idea how to run setup.exe, either.

So, I use a software 'Exe to Msi converter free'. It creates setup.msi. I run it and error: 'Error reading setup initialization file'. Of course, if I execute 'Arbortext IsoDraw 7.2.msi', error: 'This installation cannot be run directly launching the MSI. You must run setup.exe'. Tuesday, June 19, 2012 8:42 AM.

Where are you downloading the Itunes MSI file from or where are you trying to download the software from? Not sure if this can help, but its a shot in the dark. Try installing itunes from here, it very easy, the instructions are on the page, click i tunes and only itunes from the list of programs to download and install, then click 'get installer' at the bottom of the page and run the installer as per instructions (you might need to save the installer somewhere and then double click it to run it, this program installs the software in the background whilst you go about your work) then see if the download works. Its pretty quick so you will know if the installation will work or not pretty quickly.
